Easydry recognised for corporate responsibility

Easydry, the pioneer of disposable salon towels, has been named top home-grown eco business in the eighth 2011 Chambers Ireland Corporate Social Responsibility Awards, held in Dublin last night (15/09/11). Other winners included Microsoft, Marks & Spencer, the Ulster Bank, KMPG and Aviva.

The annual awards were partnered by Business in the Community Ireland, run in association with the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government and were sponsored by arvato Finance. Each winner was presented with a specially commissioned Tipperary Crystal trophy by Minister for Environment, Community & Local Government Phil Hogan T.D.

Easydry won the Eco-Business Award – Large Indigenous Company for its pioneering development of recyclable and compostable single-use towels, made using eco-friendly processes. It is the third award Easydry has won this year, and the ninth in past three years. With each win, Easydry’s reputation as a rapidly expanding multinational company with a conscience has been confirmed.

“We have put the environment at the forefront of our product development to ensure hairdressers and beauty therapists can embrace the freedom of disposable towels with a clear conscience,” said Anne Butterly, Easydry’s managing director. “Easydry towels are highly functional, providing a real alternative to bulky, over-washed cotton towels while also being more eco-friendly. They also take the strain off cotton production, which is the most polluting crop in the world.”

Speaking at the event, Ian Talbot, Chambers Ireland chief executive said: “This evening’s event and the individual efforts by each of the companies here tonight illustrate the positive work that is still taking place. Ireland has an opportunity to step out as a leader in the area of CSR, to show our commitment to the world in which we operate and to increase our credibility as a first-class place in which to do business.”

Mr Hogan continued: “I would like to offer my congratulations to all of tonight’s winners. My department is delighted to support the recognition of CSR work being carried out in Ireland. I am truly encouraged that despite economic pressures, companies in Ireland are continuing to contribute to society by conducting business in a fair manner and embracing responsibility for social and environmental issues. The partnerships being forged between the business community and wider society reaffirm the commitment by many businesses to contribute to economic development while also integrating consideration for the community in their business operations.”

July 2011

The team at multi award-winning innovator Easydry, pioneer of disposable salon towels, is on tenterhooks after being shortlisted in the Corporate Social Responsibility Awards for its contribution to the environment. But the team will have to wait until September to find out if it has won.

“This award means a lot to us as it recognises our commitment to helping other businesses put their CSR agendas in place,” said Anne Butterly, inventor of the eco-friendly disposable towel and managing director of Easydry. “Using Easydry helps companies reduce their carbon footprint, something all customers are increasing become more concerned about.”

The prestigious awards, run by the Irish Chamber of Commerce, were set up in 2004 to recognise companies that embrace corporate social responsibility (CSR) by seeking ways of working that have a positive impact on the environment, local communities, employees and clients.

Ever since Easydry launched seven years ago, it has been helping businesses dependent on a constant supply of clean towels such as gyms, hair and beauty salons and hotels, improve their client service and boost their eco-credentials without increasing costs. Using Easydry means no more water wasted washing towels or energy squandered drying them. But Easydry towels are also completely natural, made with constant regard for their environmental impact at every step of sourcing, production and delivery. They are 100 per cent biodegradable and recyclable, come in compostable packaging and are made from certifiable sustainable sources using eco-friendly processes such as recycled water. Easydry is the only disposable towel that has full eco-certification.

Easydry’s consistently high-quality towels also simplify salon life, freeing businesses from the relentless drudgery of laundering, folding and stacking towels, one of the most hated jobs in any company. This means the team has more time for training and generating revenue, and owners can turn their talents away from having to manage a laundry system and concentrate on what they do best: running a gym or a hairdressing or beauty salon business.

Earlier this year, Easydry won its eighth award, when managing director Anne Butterly was named Green Entrepreneur of the Year at the Green Awards. Just days before that, Anne, who is recognised internationally as the inventor of disposable salon towels, had won Businesswoman of the Year at the Louth County Enterprise Board Awards.

England in Drought

Increasing numbers of hair and beauty salons are switching to Easydry in an attempt to save water and help the environment following revelations that huge swathes of England are already in the midst of a drought. According to the government, this spring has been the driest across England and Wales since 1990 and the driest spring on record in south-east and central southern England.

Drought status has been triggered in Anglia, Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire, parts of Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire, and western Norfolk.

Most water companies are still confident they can sustain supplies, although Severn Trent Water has told customers restrictions may become necessary should the dry weather continue.

“Many beauty therapists and hairdressers are waking up to the need to conserve water and are implementing measures across the country, but one of the easiest steps to reducing water waste is to switch to Easydry disposable towels,” said Anne Butterly, md of multi-award winning Easydry salon towels. “Our eco-friendly disposables have been leading the way in helping salons reduce their carbon footprint dramatically, including cutting down on water wastage.”

Switching to Easydry can save around 50,000 litres of water every year –the equivalent of leaving a tap running 24 hours a day for 42 days – and end the daily grind of laundering cotton towels.

Easydry also helps salons slash their energy bill, ends their dependency on highly polluting and unhygienic cotton towels and reduces the flow of chemicals into the water system. Easydry is the only certified eco-friendly disposable towel and the only one made to clinical standards of hygiene.

Environment Secretary Caroline Spelman has been holding drought summits to review the impact of the continuing dry weather and consider what more can be done.

She said: “Water companies are confident that supplies are high enough so that widespread restrictions to the public are unlikely. We're doing all we can to reduce the impact on agriculture and wildlife, but everyone can play their part.

“Households know how to use less water, and everyone can do their bit to use water more wisely, not only through the summer, but throughout the year.”

Ways to save water:

·         Install water aerated taps

·         Opt for low or dual-flush toilet

·         Always turn off taps quickly

·         Switch to Easydry

Green award victory for eco-friendly Easydry

Eco-pioneer Easydry has received the highest environment accolade possible on its home turf as Easydry Eco-towel inventor and company managing director Anne Butterly was named Green Entrepreneur of the Year at the Green Awards 2011.

The Green Awards is Ireland’s most prestigious competition for environmentally friendly businesses, and Anne is delighted to be given such recognition. Her award was presented by the Minister for Environment, Heritage and Local Government, Phil Hogan T.D.  at the ceremony on 14 April.

“We have put the environment at the forefront of our product development to ensure hairdressers and beauty therapists can embrace the freedom of disposable towels with a clear conscience,” said Anne. “Easydry towels are highly functional, providing a real alternative to bulky, over-washed cotton towels while also being more eco-friendly. They also take the strain off cotton production, which is the most polluting crop in the world.”

Over the past six years, Easydry has developed a disposable towel range that provides a solution for any beauty or hairdressing salon or spa, from small manicure to large bath towels. Anne, who was named Businesswoman of the Year 2011 just two weeks earlier in the Louth County Enterprise Board Awards, invented the Easydry Eco-towel seven years ago after she got fed up of her flatmates ruining all the towels when dying their hair. Since then Anne and her team have persuaded thousands of salons across the globe to embrace Easydry and end the wasteful consumption of water and energy used to launder towels.

Every Easydry Eco-towel is completely natural, made with constant regard for environmental impact at every step of sourcing, production and delivery. Easydry also simplifies salon life, freeing staff from the relentless drudgery of laundering, folding and stacking hairdressing and beauty towels, one of the most hated jobs in any salon. This means the team has more time for training and generating revenue, and owners can turn their talents away from having to manage a laundry system and concentrate on what they do best: running a salon business.

In the past two years, Easydry has been shortlisted for 12 awards. Anne’s latest accolade means the the company has now won eight awards for innovation, sustainability, export and entrepreneurism.

Easydry Green With Pride

Easydry’s managing director, Anne Butterly, has been named Businesswoman of the Year in the Louth County Enterprise Board Awards within days of being shortlisted in two categories in the prestigious Green Awards. The final of the Green Awards will take place on 14 April.

“It is hugely satisfying to be recognised for the work we have done and the success we have achieved to date,” said Anne, who invented the Easydry environmentally friendly disposable towel more than six years ago. “But our success in helping reduce the collective carbon footprint of the industry is only possible due to the vision and enthusiasm of individual salons which have embraced the Easydry Eco-Towel as a cost-effective way of reducing the burden towels place on the environment and on the day-to-day running of a salon.”

Easydry is shortlisted for Green Innovation and Green Entrepreneur in recognition of its drive to create eco-friendly solutions for hairdressers and other towel-dependent sectors such as beauty and gyms. Every Easydry towel is completely natural, made with constant regard for its environmental impact at every step of sourcing, production and delivery. Easydry also simplifies salon life, freeing staff from the relentless drudgery of laundering, folding and stacking towels, one of the most hated jobs in any salon. This means the team has more time for training and generating revenue, and owners can turn their talents away from having to manage a laundry system and concentrate on what they do best: running a hairdressing salon business.

In the past two years, Easydry has been shortlisted for 12 awards. Anne’s latest accolade means the company has now won seven awards for a mixture of innovation, sustainability, export and, now, entrepreneurism.
